6th Round Gold! The 6th Round Brady Effect: 2/03/10

Every year come draft time sports writers and analyst ask the same question: "who will find the next Tom
Brady?" This question is not only geared toward finding a player of Brady's talent, but almost more focused
on finding a player of his talent in such a late round. Brady not only equals greatness, he also equals value
and a true draft gem. But, Brady is not the only quarterback drafted in the 6th round or later that has proven
to be successful. The following list of players are noteworthy. They in no way compare in record or statistics,
but do deserve a quick shout-out and proves that franchise/starting quarterbacks are not only found in the
1st round.

Based on the stats and records, no other quarterback matches Tom Brady. But, the other quarterbacks have
had admirable careers. Hasselbeck, Bulger and Cassel are all still starting in the league. Of the six
quarterbacks there have been nine Pro Bowl appearances (Hasselbeck = 3; Johnson = 2; Green = 2; and
Bulger = 2); two Superbowl appearances (Johnson = 2003; Hasselbeck = 2005) and one Superbowl
Championship (Johnson = 2003).

Given the right system, coaching and development, a team can find a starting quarterback in the later rounds
of the draft. We will eventually look back at the 2010 draft and find a quarterback taken in the later rounds
who hopefully has had a successful career. That is one of the beauties of the NFL draft.
