Terrell Owens Signs 1-Year Deal With the Bengals
July 27, 2010

Cincinnati, OH - Terrell Owens has finally found a home. The Bengals and Owens have reached a
one-year deal worth $2 million with another $2 million in possible incentives. Owens, a 15 year veteran, was
not resigned by the Bills and sat on the Free Agent market for nearly 6 months. This new acquisition by the
Bengals further signifies the team's commitment to upgrade the offense. Owens is
one of four new offseason pickups meant to help Carson Palmer and the passing
game. During the draft, the Bengals spent two of their first three picks on upgrading
the passing game. Jermaine Gresham (first round) and Jordan Shipley (third round)
were drafted. Prior to that, the team cut ties with veteran Laveraneus Coles and
added Antonio Bryant via Free Agency. With the additions of Bryant, Gresham,
Shipley and now Owens, the Bengals passing attack and overall offense should be
much improved. Regardless of Owens' age and "locker room issues," he is still
capable of being one of the most productive and explosive wide receivers in the
league. Because of that, the Bengals got a steal in signing Owens who should help
the Bengals win consecutive AFC North titles.
San Diego Set to Open Camp Without Top Pick - Ryan Matthews
July 25, 2010

San Diego, CA - The Chargers are set to open Training Camp Monday, July 26th. However, their first
round draft pick (12th pick overall), Ryan Matthews, is still not under contract. The Fresno State standout is
expected to take over the Running Back position full-time. Prior to the NFL draft, the Chargers released future
Hall-of-Famer, LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson later signed with the Jets. If history repeats, Matthews should
be the next superstar running back for the Chargers' organization. Headcoach, Norv Turner also has a nice
track record of developing productive running backs in the NFL. For Matthews, the possibility of a potential
holdout could hurt. "I like the young guys to be here," coach Norv Turner said. "I'm anxious for Ryan to get here.
He knows it's important to get here. There were three or four things that came up today that I would have liked
to have him see. So yeah, he's missing things. Those things he can make up, also." For both Matthews and
the Chargers, the urgency to get a deal put in place is critical. Matthews has enormous upside and has the
capability of being the next "great" running back in San Diego. For the Chargers, they will be hard pressed to
find a player to contribute as much as Tomlinson; but Matthews is a great start. As of right now, Matthews is
one of 31 other first round draft picks yet to sign. WR, Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys the only first rounder to
reach a contract.
Has Elvis Dumervil Set the Standard for OLB Contracts?
July 22, 2010

Denver, CO - The Denver Broncos have signed star Outside Linebacker, Elvis
Dumervil to a long term contract. The contract is worth $61.5 million with $43.168
million in guaranteed money. Dumervil's guaranteed money exceeds that of other
superstar defenders: Ware, Peppers, Allen and Suggs. Will this contract set the
standard for other defensive players looking for long-term deals? Two players at
the same position: Shawne Merriman and LaMarr Woodley are both looking for
similar contract extensions. From a productivity standpoint, all 3 are comparable.
In four seasons, Dumervil has accumulated 43 sacks. Last year alone, Demerol
led the NFL with 17.0 sacks. Merriman has 43.5 sacks in 4 total seasons (one
season on IR) and Woodley has 29.0 sacks in 3 seasons. It will be interesting to
follow how both Merriman and Woodley's contract extensions turn out. Both are
Pro Bowlers expecting big pay-days/extensions. Depending on how 2010 plays
out, both may not receive new contracts until the end of the season, if at all.

Panthers Reach Agreement With Top Pick: Jimmy Clausen
July 28, 2010

Charlotte, NC - The Panthers are the first team to sign all of their 2010 NFL Draft picks. The last, and
arguably the most important being QB, Jimmy Clausen. Clausen and the Panthers agreed to a 4-year $2.533
million salary with incentives and escalators that could potentially reach $6.3 million. Clausen, a second round
draft pick, was one of the bigger stories of the draft. Many draft analyst rated Clausen the number one overall
QB in the draft class and a top 10 draft pick. However, both Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow were drafted before
Clausen in the first round. Out of the three quarterbacks, Clausen may be the most ready to start and may have
the chance for the most success. The Carolina offensive line and running game will take a lot of pressure off
Clausen. Additionally, both Bradford and Tebow may be thrown into the starting lineup a bit premature.
Clausen on the other hand will have the opportunity to develop as Matt Moore is the current incumbent for the
Panthers. Moore led the Panthers to a 4-1 record while averaging 23.2 points per game. The drafting of
Clausen was a true indicator that Fox and company are not completely sold on Moore being a full-time starter.
Or, they feel that strongly for Clausen and his potential. After all, Clausen was by the far the best player
available on the draft board at the 48th overall pick. I suspect that Clausen will surpass Moore towards the end
of the year and head into 2011 as the team's official starter.
